Rain Rain Come Today

Whoever wants to hum these lines now?

Rain Rain Go Away

Come again another day

I have only been singing

Rain Rain come today

If u do want to, go away another day 😛

Still better, I wanna say:

I hear Thunder, I hear Thunder, Oh don’t you ? Oh, don’t you ?

Pitter-patter raindrops, Pitter-Patter raindrops. I’m wet through.

Unfortunate that the rain gods are not pleased one single bit with all those homams, havans, pujas , frog weddings etc etc that the dumb ministers are carrying out 😉 I even saw on some Kannada channel yesterday that they have carried out Godh-bharai for a frog. Heights! Ullu ke patte 😛

When I read Hitchy’s post in the morning, I could not agree more. How is it that they don’t remember these days might come when they disturb the balance in the environment? Why the hell do they cut trees for construction and other purposes?

Rain God, if you are listening to me, I want to follow a ritual too.

And I really do my bit for the water-cycle. I  look after my dear plants very well 🙂

And yeah,I want to tell you how much I love u. See, people visit us when they feel that we are happy to have them home and also that we find gr8 joy n pleasure  in their company. So, I want to let u know that u r most welcome here and I love playing with you 😉

When we friends missed the school bus just to enjoy walking back all the way home, stepping into the puddles, drinking the rain water directly, collecting the water in coconut shells and splashing it at each other, getting our white uniforms adorned with those chocolaty spots, rushing home to drop the bag on the couch and get out to play in the water when hunger, tiredness nothing mattered to us, isn’t it proof enough that we love you?

The joy when we saw that one drop of rain on the beautifully pink rose petal or dripping from the tip of that lustrous green leaf, what a pleasure it was!

Riding the bicycle through those muddy puddles and staring at those ripples being formed, that joy can never be derived from anything else.

And yeah, u know we used to play Antakshari with the condition that all the songs had to be related to rain remember. Never mind if we made up some of them; but then, we did make a genuine effort at that 😉  Sitting in the balcony, spicy mirchi bhajjis, hot steaming coffee, great company for some gup-shup would all mean nothing but for ur glorious presence.

And why do u think there are so many songs and praises sung in ur name? The most romantic moments, evergreen memories have all been featuring you. Even the long time love affair b/w Bollywood and Rains speaks volumes about ur place in our lives isn’t it?

Here are some of my all-time favourite rain songs:

Pyar hua iqrar hua hai [Shri420]

Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si (Chalti Ka Nam Gaadi)

Zindagi bhar nahin bhoolenge (Barsaat Ki Raat)

Sawan ka mahina pawan kare sor (Milan)

Rimjhim gire sawan sulag sulag jaaye man (Manzil)

Rimjhim rimjhim (1942 A Love Story)

Ghanan ghanan ghan gir gaye badara (Lagaan)

Hum Tum (Hum Tum)

Bhaage re man kahin (Chameli)

Saawan barse tarse dil (Dahek)

Ye Saazish hai Boondon ki (Fanaa)

Barson re megha megha (Guru)

Come on guyz, what are u all waiting for :P.

Share ur monsoon memories and favourite songs here.  Let’s drench ourselves in these melodious songs and wonderful memories. Rain God will definitely be happy with this free, full-of-fun, nostalgic, musical ritual 😉

And yeah, let’s do our bit for the environment 😛

Let the rain kiss you.

Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.

Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

~Langston Hughes

rains are such an integral part of our childhood memories. though i lived in dubai all my life, we usually visited india during summer vacations (july-aug) which was the main monsoon season in india. coming from a desert, you can imagine how amazed and spellbound we used to be seeing all the rain.

Yeah yeah .. like oasis in a desert na 🙂

and you know what really caught my fancy? in mumbai, i once saw one side of a road wet and the other side dry!!! i still wonder how the hell that happened. I mean..the rain gods did not like the other side kya?

    LOL @ that analysis.
***Swaram calculates in her mind that Masood is really smart and she has to be careful if she has to play some tricks any time ;)***

but then i spent 9 yrs in india after that for my college, mba and job. so got my fair share of rain memories.

    🙂

quite surprising that it hasnt rained in blore yet.

Yeah 😦 What with so much felling of trees n all 😦

when i left blore in aug 07, it had rained on the last day. n i said to myself, “so i am not the only one sad leaving this city!”

I love when it rains. But me likes rain when indoors. Getting drenched makes me go awwwwwwwkk.. I am not too fond of sticky yucky clothes, getting stuck in traffic jam et al :p

    😉

I prefer staying at home, watching the rain with a hot cup of coffee. Aiyo! that’s bliss. Not to mention a book in hand. What life.. I want it to rain in Bengalooru now 😦 Now as in after I reach home *wink*

Aaha that is heaven. Remember that song … ‘Ille swarga ille naraka’ 🙂

I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old, I got stuck coz of rains. This was in Hubli. The whole bleddy school was flooded. I think that did it. I was scarred for life 😀

Hmm ..somethings do that to us; like I hv skid-o-phobia as I had fallen down badly once. Still, I love playing in the rain 😛

  18. Nice post. I love the rainy days too. In Singapore, my sis are I used to stand under this building where the rain will just pour on us and then we ran back home, took a nice cold bath. Mom used to make spring roll samosas with lemon chilli sauce, yum yum.. I miss those.. 🙂

Wow! Yummy 🙂 Lunch time n mention of Spring roll samosas n that too lemon chilli sauce .. how nice. I really miss my Mom’s cooking too 😦
Eating self-cooked food feels so tasteless @ times 😛

Also thought of two songs, not sure if it has been added.. One is from Thakshak- Beegi beegi barish….bunde se baatein… cant remember the lyrics now and the other from Dil to pagal hai- tak chum chum.. dont remember that too 🙂 but it was children dancing in the rain…

    Oh yeah .. Gode jaisi chaal …. that’s a nice song na .. thank u 🙂

  19. I love the monsoons Swaram. I’ve already been wading through ankle deep water & loving every bit of it.
& those songs sent me on a nostalgic trip. Such lovely songs , all of them.
My dad’s fav was an old song “Barkha Rani, Zara Jam ke barso”. He used to put this on our old record player whenever it used to rain we were young & I loved it 🙂

You have a cool place now 😛

    Thank u; WP ws missing u 😉

Loved the site and the blog.

    🙂

Yes, all of the songs you have mentioned are my favorite songs too…

    How romantic na!

Except that, I truly do NOT like getting drenched in rain. In fact, I hate it. But what I do LOVE tremendously is to sit on our window sill, with a book in my hand and hot chai and pakoda near by with rains lashing down my window. There should not be anybody in the house. Just me and my book and my world 😛

    Ah Bliss 😛

May be this will happen once my daughter starts going to school and I quit my job to stay at home 😀

    Wow!!!!!

In fact, people celebrate when we get sunshine.

Far away mountains r always beautiful na 😛

Personally, I LOVE getting drenched in the rain. As a child, like you, I also use to not get the bus and walk home just to get wet in the rain. 🙂

Same pinch Badz 😉 Next time when u come here, we will dance in the rain together okie 😛
