A short (and sweet) post :P

Met a person today; not just any other person, but one of the most eminent environmentalists of India. Some of his success stories have been one of their kind in the whole of India till date – like the campaign against the establishment of a Nuclear Power Plant at Nagarjuna Sagar, one of the most beautiful places to visit here in AP!

All he had to say when we lauded his work was I should be so grateful that God has selected me and given me a chance to do my bit., in a totally down-to-earth manner at that!  Really? Such people do exist eh? Am still pinching myself to know 🙄

Tata!

  1. The best part is you get to meet such wonderful people and we get to know about them through you and feel inspired. Thanks for doing your bit too, Swaram. 🙂

  2. Yes.
There are such people who exist.

I do not know to what extent you are familiar with playback singer Yesudas (you might have heard of him) and his guru Dakshinamoorthy (not sure if u heard of this person).
They are fabulous Carnatic singers. There was recently a programme conducted to honour so many years of Yesudas’ arrival into Malayalam film industry. Dakshinamoorthy (now atleast 90 years old) was also invited. And at the event during his speech when asked to say a few words, all he said was: “Life is such that if you are fed you will eat, if you are allowed to sleep, you will sleep; if you are made to sing you will sing.”

People did not understand at first. He smiled knowingly and said: “What I meant was: it is all God’s will. If He decides you can eat, you will eat. If He decides you can sleep, sleep will come to you. Similarly, if he bestows and blesses the talent of music on you, you will sing. Realize that NOTHING is in your hands really.”

I was stunned by the amount of humility these stalwarts have. They can easily be arrogant and behave like they own the earth – we know of so many such people right? The really great ones are the most humble…truly.

Loved the last line. It is the less blessed ones who think they own the earth.

  3. Swar, I already have this feeling that you are living on a different people meeting ‘extraordinary’ people doing extraordinary things, but without all that noise and jazz! Keep sharing your experiences so we feel reassured that this planet is a nice place to be in!
