A couple of days ago, I received a mail from the lovely RM telling me about a wonderful initiative their IMC team (http://www.indianmomsconnect.com/) was planning to be a part of. It was to be a crowdfunding campaign for which they were approached by Pratham books and would cater to the reading interests of about 50,000 needy kids through this Donate-a-thon – how awesome is that!:) It was very kind of RM to have offered to run the campaign in favour of one of the schools we work with. Honestly RM, I feel so grateful to have met such wonderful people through this blog 🙂 She also offered that the school could be in Bengaluru, so that it would be easy for me to co-ordinate and ensure greater usage of the books too. I was so touched by her attention to detail.
I ofcourse had no reason to say ‘NO’ and felt that an informal bridge school we run for the kids of migrant labour would be the best fit. These children have no access to even the most basic amenities, let alone story books. You can read more about the school in one of my previous blog posts, here. Currently there are 30 students, aged between 4 years to 14 years. These kids are are from families who migrated from north Karnataka like Bidar, Raichur and Gulbarga, and are working here in the construction industry, braving the sun and the rain.
Long story cut short, the campaign is now ON and we have just 29 days to do our bit. Please head to https://donateabook.org.in/campaign/31 and donate whatever you can. Every bit counts; no amount is a small amount 🙂 And thanks in advance from all of us 🙂
