Err don’t laugh please 😛 You have to post anything and everything possible when you have taken up an oath to post daily, right? 😛 😛
When I had a food blog, I had a page dedicated to tips-n-tricks. Now that I have integrated all those posts here too, there’s no place I can go on adding the tips I come across.
Today, while I was browsing through yet another new recipe book that I bought in Bengaluru this time [‘Bombat Bhojana from Sihi Kahi Chandru for those who want to know :P], I found some very good tips. Sharing those plus what I have heard from other corners of late. You might know some of them, some may be new 🙂 Do add to them in the comment space and we will have a ready reckoner right here 😀
# This is from Dad – A glass of water with camphor placed in various corners keeps all those injecting mosquitoes at bay. Yes, it does!
# If your hands are oily, they are best washed with water mixed with a little vinegar and salt.
# This one from a friend. If you are suffering from gastric/acidity, boil water with cumin seeds (jeera) and leave it overnight. Drink one glass of the same first thing in the morning. Another tip is to chew over a piece of clove (laung) whenever you are feeling very uncomfortable because of the same. Another home made remedy is to have asafoetida (hing) dissolved in buttermilk.
# If you soak candles in salt water and dry them before use, they last longer.
# If you nose is blocked, you have an allergic cold etc.. heat up a piece of ‘turmeric stick’ and breathe in the smoke from the same. You will find instant relief. This one courtesy the in-laws.
# Gaskets stored in freezer last longer.
# Eating 3 strands of curry leaves twice a day improves your iron levels like anything. Sister does this religiously and now I have started it too 😉
# Tender coconut mixed with lemon juice is best cure for constipation.
# Mouth ulcers are best treated with some honey smeared over them 3-4 times a day. You can also cure them by keeping some dry coconut + poppy (khus-khus) pressed inside your mouth. Honey can also be smeared to treat burns. This one again from home 🙂
# Adding pudina leaves to hot water and inhaling the steam clears throat congestion, esp. the kich-kich thingy 😛
# For PMS: Roast cumin (jeera)/ fennel (saunf)/ carom (ajwain). Coarsely grind, add water and boil. Filter and drink.
Pain during flow: Buttermilk + sugar + sip slowly.
– courtesy a friend who is an Ayurvedic doctor.
# Eating a betel leaf with crystal salt and 2 seeds of black pepper inside it, is the best cure for clearing phlegm in the throat.
# Drinking coriander juice cures indigestion best.
# We all know that pressing a piece of clove against the paining tooth eases the pain. Another option is to chew cumin seeds. Clove is also effective in stopping hiccups!
# A gardening tip: Placing garlic pods inside the pots will prevent the attack of pests.
# To drive away any kind of foul smell from glass bottles, half-fill it with water and add a tsp of baking soda. Shake well and leave for an hour.
# I wash my silverware in boiled water in which baking soda is mixed. They look their best with this treatment.
Let me stop here and leave the ball in your court. The other tips can wait for another day when I have nothing else to post 😉 Come on, share your tips please 🙂
