LOL yes u r 😛
August 11, 2010 at 22:30
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …………….. u r missing from my blog ….
August 12, 2010 at 11:08
He is just claiming position on other blogs too 😛 😛
August 11, 2010 at 11:53
Wah-wah 🙂 All the best!
August 11, 2010 at 11:55
Swaram…do u have an email id? I cant find it on your blog or am I missing it. Just had a quick qtn.
August 11, 2010 at 11:59
Aah sure 🙂
U cn send me a mail from the MailMe page above 🙂
Sorry, i don’t agree. Would we stay happy if the company doesn’t give hike? They are fighting for their rights. I don’t see anything wrong. It is a great opportunity for us to get used to public transport in such occasions.
Aah! Is it like us asking for hikes when they demand 60 rs to a place 2 kms away? Gud luck then 🙂
I am nt willing to pay them their hike 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 12:06
Which world am I in? Though I haven’t taken even once an auto in the past 3 years, as far as I hear from friends, usually they demand more if the place is somewhat remote or they don’t get a return customer. But INR 60 for 2km is gross!
August 11, 2010 at 12:10
I hv heard most ppl in Blr complain abt it too. So am nt sure its only abt Hyderabad. The prime reason for shifting close to office ws bcoz I hd problems with auto every single day and I dnt hv good public transport for the same! And both my house and office are in prominent locations!!!!!!
August 11, 2010 at 12:03
The way of fighting for their rights is not by taxing their customers Mohan. Do u charge ur client if ur company doesn’t provide u any hike?
August 11, 2010 at 12:05
There might be few spoiled brats here and there, but generalizing everyone into one category and boycotting makes no sense to me!
August 11, 2010 at 12:09
Pls read my linked post and come bk Mohan. The majority belong to the former category!!!!
August 23, 2010 at 14:20
I had a first hand experience of dealing with such taxi/rikshaw walas during my recent trip to Mumbai. I shall write about it on how I managed and why so many people are having bad experience.
August 23, 2010 at 14:22
Ahh will be waiting for the post 🙂 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 12:15
Actually I was shocked to see how arrogant most of the autowalas have become since I left the country some yrs back.. they wont agree for any destination and most of the times play with the meters.. one guy refused to take the short route we suggested and make us go round n round.. I avoid autos as much as possible..
August 11, 2010 at 12:51
I hear a lot of such stories too off late. When we moved to Hyd 3 yrs bk, I thought Blr ws better 😛
August 11, 2010 at 12:34
I’m in 😀
August 11, 2010 at 12:38
Meter jam rockss 🙂 …!! mumbai rickshawalla’s deserve it grrrr
August 11, 2010 at 12:52
:grrrr to Hyderabadi ones too 😛
August 11, 2010 at 12:43
Loved this initiative….
Me too 😀
August 11, 2010 at 12:45
I have stopped taking autos!!! I try my level best not to get into one…
I wait for the bus or walk or take my bike…
But, the only time I take an auto is when I come back from Mysore.. and I always pay more! 😐
August 11, 2010 at 13:07
Very gud 😛
I am happy am not contributing daily too on my way to work 😛 😛
August 11, 2010 at 14:22
Yes I am ready to Say No to autos and taxis. 🙂 This is a good thing.
But thank God, Chennai has fantastic bus and train service to every nook and corner of the city, so its no probs. Actually, I’ve totally avoided the auto…they are money mongers here…no meter at all in any auto…demand such high rates…
If ticket in a bus route is 6/- (thats a limited stop service – so the seats are very good, with sliding doors, ok), I need to pay 150/- for auto for the same distance – Just imagine where all the money is getting drained…even if we go by car, its only one ltr of petrol.
August 11, 2010 at 14:29
Oh u r so rt Ums. Dependable Public transport system is such a boon! I hd no probs commuting in Blr too and I hv seen Chennai is really gud when I hd visited.
U know abt Hyd no 😦 😦 Am so glad to be staying close to work nw 😀
August 11, 2010 at 14:30
Totally with you!
I am asked 40 bucks for a 1.5 kms at times! And yes, most of them are that way, across cities!
That’s the reason why there is this helpline number to call an complain if need be!
Yay to meterjam!
August 11, 2010 at 14:37
I know 😦 They think we earn in crores every day 😦
I hv called the Police Control Room a few times too DI and ws actually surprised they respond well. Am nt sure if they take any action later, but speak well on the phone and give a nice lecture to the auto driver 😉
August 11, 2010 at 15:03
I have not used public transport/autos from more than 3yrs now..In Gurgaon public transport is worst..u dont get any bus/auto in most of places..so have to reply on ur car/bike..
all the best to all of you joining the cause.
August 11, 2010 at 15:53
Aah I know 😦 It’s the same in Hyd too 😦 And the worst thing is the traffic – being more is another thing. No one follows rules and if u do, u cn be hit anytime 😦
August 11, 2010 at 15:17
Largely the autos and taxis in Mumbai are not too unreasonable – they go by the meter but nowadays they are a bit annoying with their refusal to ply short distances!!!
I am totally all for the ban but i am just a lill wary of taking away a person’s livelihood for a day? If he has a hand to mouth existence will this mean all their kids wont get a meal???
August 11, 2010 at 15:22
Oh i c .. nt bad then 🙂
But eh, I hv to do it for my kids tomorrow 😛 I can’t spend a fortune on commuting daily 🙂 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 18:11
Lol…now that’s another way of looking at it 😀 i might feel less guilty if i think of that angle
August 12, 2010 at 11:12
I dnt like hitting on anybody’s everyday life too, but I hv hd enuf sad experiences to protest in this case 😦
August 11, 2010 at 15:31
The worst thing about hyd are the autos. My mom never takes a auto she always travel by RTC buses, she says they are the best.
August 11, 2010 at 15:59
Oh thatz the best!
August 11, 2010 at 15:35
Oh, ok, so then this is new idea of wordless wednesdays, huh? 😀
A few rotten guys have spoilt the entire lot; but there are genuine guys out there who struggle with their autos to make both ends meet. I have come across so many auto guys who loot, at the same time, I have also come across an equal number of them who had helped me. Moreover, if its something that would bring in a radical change, I wouldve joined it wholeheartedly. The looters will continue to loot no matter what; like you mentioned, its just for a day, they are not going to lose anything. But the genuine guys over there; they are the ones who are going to suffer.
August 11, 2010 at 15:50
I hv nt seen an EQUAL no. definitely!
What do one day strikes serve in that case Vimmuuu? It shows we can do this!!!!!
August 11, 2010 at 15:54
Vimmuuu, when u say there will be no loss in one day, hw will the genuine guys suffer? Its one day for them too!
August 11, 2010 at 16:39
“The looters will continue to loot no matter what; like you mentioned, its just for a day, they are not going to lose anything” — and I meant the looters !!
Even if its for a day, I wouldnt want the good guys to suffer. I personally would feel bad if I am not allowed to work for a day in my office and to top it all, make that day, a loss of pay.
August 11, 2010 at 16:42
We dnt work by harassing everyone Vimmuuu! The auto drivers even come to beat up women sometimes!!!!!
August 11, 2010 at 18:01
LOL, you are taking it into a totally different angle now. Is this campaign against the moral side of the auto drivers or their increasing fares ? 😀 😀 😀 As far as the above poster is concerned, its only against the rates ! 😛
Swarrr, not all the auto drivers are the same, na ? I, personally, wouldnt want to make even one guy suffer because ten others are wrong.
Moreover, its a strike; this is like conducting a strike against another strike. Whats the difference between us and the ones we are fighting against then ????
To each his/her own. I cannot take part in this campaign because I always support the working class.
August 11, 2010 at 18:09
LOL Vims, u r nt getting the connection @ all! They come to beat u up when u dnt pay them what they demand – sometimes after reaching the destination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I def. hv a problem against that!
Pls suggest another way in which u will teach a lesson only to the bad ones then? Wait for our police to impose fine and put them behind bars???? Ha ha – hw many yrs 😛
August 11, 2010 at 18:15
hahaha and so this campaign is going to teach them that lesson in one day, a lesson which they hadnt learnt over the decades 😀 😀 😀
The looters will still continue to loot after this campaign even if its for a week, and the other ones are going to be at the receiving end for no fault of theirs ! 😀
August 12, 2010 at 11:14
Vimmuuu, dnt tell me u know the result of everything in life before u even give it a try! Waise, hw many auto drivers do u feed everyday 😉
I think u hv never fallen a regular prey to these predators! Anyway, let’s agree to disagree.
Am of the kind who does not even fire a maid even if she doesn’t arrive for days together without having a valid reason. So this is not for hitting on anybody’s stomach. U suggest a way to punish the bad ones and we will happily agree. Til then, we will do it our way 🙂
August 13, 2010 at 00:10
What are you 2 arguing about??? Vimmuuu doesnt even use rickshaws…he has a bike!!! 😛 😛 😛
August 11, 2010 at 15:39
in chennai,we have a/c public transport buses, so comfortable. auto are everywhere the same.
By the way, I thought u were in office busy working, until i saw ur post 1 hr back 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 15:49
A 2 min post means I am nt working !?!!
August 11, 2010 at 15:55
Chennai public transport system is totally reliable. In cities where it is not, autos pose a major problem by demanding too much in excess 😦
August 11, 2010 at 15:41
You know I have to change 3 buses + walk for 1-2 knm to reach my home if I take local buses ..
but still I prefer doing that than take autos ..
In auto inspite of the hike in fair you are left guessing if the meter is working correctly..
August 11, 2010 at 16:00
So true Vandana. I used to take 2-3 buses before too while wkg in Blr, but I ws nt spending a fortune and the buses r frequent too! These ppl suck every penny out of u 😦
August 11, 2010 at 15:48
I’m all for it. I take autos as rarely as possible, because there’s danger of cold-blooded murder if another one says No to me 😡
August 11, 2010 at 16:02
Ha ha 😛
Am so so so happy to see that this has reached your city too!!!!!
This is an initiative by 3 ppl in advertising, who thought of doing something about this menace of auto & cab drivers putting commuters in a tight spot, even after hike infares…
one if them is an ex-colleague of mine … 😀
We’re supporting it here too… have managed for Car-pooling with some colleague who drive past my house for tomm! 😀
August 11, 2010 at 16:04
Sistahhh, soooo nice to c u here 🙂
Aww really – thatz soo nice. Pls convey a note of thanks from my side too 🙂
I am nt taking an auto tmrw, even if I am dying to go shopping too 😛 😛 😛
August 11, 2010 at 17:26
Thats a good initiative Swar… 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 17:34
Ya I hope it works out 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 17:32
Do you think the autowallahs will learn by this?
U never know what u cn do till u try 🙂 🙂 Hai na 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 17:41
They always will be rude, but this is an awesome initiative
August 11, 2010 at 17:42
It sure is 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 17:47
whoa !! Am all for this campaign.. wish someone would start it for Delhi too.. the auto wallas just don’t use their meters….
August 11, 2010 at 17:49
LOL Looks like its the same story everywhere 😉 😉
August 11, 2010 at 19:52
I am saying that for my whole lifetime 😀 😀 Except during my visit Hyderabad… I couldn’t have visited you if I avoided 😀 😀
August 12, 2010 at 11:22
LOL I know the system is really @ fault 😦 gud public transport system is gonna benefit all of us
August 12, 2010 at 15:09
Not only us.. goverment too… but I think they are getting more profit by not operating 😉
August 11, 2010 at 21:02
Time for a proper post babe!
August 12, 2010 at 11:23
LOL U mean i am dishing out only improper ones nwadays 😉
Ha ha, agree am nt as regular as before 😛 😛
August 11, 2010 at 21:03
hope this makes a difference!
August 12, 2010 at 11:24
*Keeping fingers crossed *
August 11, 2010 at 22:10
All the best …. I hope this exercise is fruitful ….
August 12, 2010 at 11:27
Amen! Thank u 🙂
August 11, 2010 at 22:32
i agree ma … it has become so bad
take for instance bangalore uni -> rajajinagar.
at uni, they ask for return coz they cant get anyone from r-nagar to uni … and at r-nagar, they ask for return coz they cant get customers …. what the hell ??!!!!!!!
chennai is no better either.
August 12, 2010 at 11:46
Sigh! I know 😦
Sad state of affairs 😦
August 12, 2010 at 00:45
In fact it’ s not few brats but most of them…i was asked to pay 400 bugs for travelling from Ahmedabad to gandhinagar during my first visit..later i came to know that i was cheated…and always found many auto wala’s waiting to trap passengers at railway stations…no one leaves a chance to get paid more…
@mohan: it’s not few auto walas who are bad in fact it’s vice – versa… 🙂
August 12, 2010 at 12:31
I hv hd max. such experiences too 😦 So much so that when I find a good one, I thank him and pay him extra 😛
August 12, 2010 at 06:03
hope to see some change… i would have sure participated if I had been there physically.
August 12, 2010 at 12:32
🙂 🙂 I hope so too 🙂
August 12, 2010 at 10:26
ok swar, for you “wonly”, I will also avoid taking the taxo and auto tom 😉
August 12, 2010 at 12:33
Ha ha ha danku 8)
U hv to ask Charlie no 😛 😛
August 12, 2010 at 11:28
there are no meters in Chennai autos 😉
August 12, 2010 at 12:36
LOL 😛 😛
August 12, 2010 at 12:53
Good initiative against that attitude of them.
August 12, 2010 at 13:08
Hmm hope it works!
August 12, 2010 at 12:57
Situation is even worse here in Guwahati…. autowallahas are big time looters but taxis are slightly better .It is a good initiative ,i hope it makes a difference.
Swaram, thanks a lot for nudging me ….. i finally updated my page .
I ws soo happy to see an update on ur blog 🙂
read and commented too 🙂
As usual, such an interesting post 🙂
August 12, 2010 at 13:40
Excellent initiative!! Wish we had something like this in Chennai too!!!
August 13, 2010 at 11:33
Ya i think most Indian cities need it no?
August 12, 2010 at 13:46
In Kerala, autos were good when I was living there. Meters were followed and charges were kind of fixed among autos. Coming from there to Metros, it was a shock for me how much you get cheated. This is a great initiative.
Ya Laks. Max ppl want to make fast money 😦
August 12, 2010 at 13:50
For those who are protesting, I support your emotion and I hope the bad ones learn a lesson or two 🙂 But personally, I don’t support the protest.
I fight tooth and nail with the ones who loot, but like Vimmuuu says, there are genuine ones too.
In fact, a week or so back, by about 9pm, I was trying to get an auto to drop me home. Meter charge would be about 42-45. Every one of them asked for 100, 80, 120, etc.
Finally, one offered to put the meter. When I reached home, the metr showed a Rs 43, and I gave him 45. He gave back Rs 2, AND apologised for dropping it when he took it out of the pocket! I was astound!
So, personally, I do not support this. I deal with them the way they deal with me. If they quote exorbitant rates and I’m really desperate to reach my destination, I ask them to take me to some really far off place via my actual destination (which they readily agree to) and then get off where I have to. And pay them what’s on the meter. If they’re decent, so am I. 😀
August 13, 2010 at 11:35
I hv met some such drivers too and I always pay them extra and even thank them for being genuine and send out a prayer! But max no of ppl cheat us 😦
I think we are all decent with decent ppl too. I don’t think such things would work out with many of them. They r smart!
August 12, 2010 at 14:39
er…how will you get to office?
August 13, 2010 at 11:39
I stay just 2 min away nw 😉 😉
August 12, 2010 at 16:26
tap tap tap…waiting.
August 13, 2010 at 11:40
dan dan dan 😀
August 12, 2010 at 17:42
an excuse for me to work from home :p heheheh me totally supports the initiative 😀
August 12, 2010 at 17:55
off topic: autos are also death traps. I sometimes call my mom and tell her how much I love her when the rick swerves too often. Auto Rajas ride full faaaaaasht wonly.
August 13, 2010 at 11:41
Ha ha ha ha … u r funny ma 😉 😉
August 13, 2010 at 00:07
Somebody blogged about it!!! 😀 😀 😀 lol…me happy

August 13, 2010 at 11:42
August 15, 2010 at 12:46
August 16, 2010 at 12:04
Thanks Kannan and welcome here 🙂
August 17, 2010 at 12:29
it was actually depressing to see people hardly following it 😦
August 17, 2010 at 12:42
Sigh 😦 😦
August 17, 2010 at 17:45
These days my fights with autowallahs have reached new levels. I start fighting in Kannada, switch to Hindi for better abusing power, and then end with Tamil for the ‘effect’. I toh will be saying no to them everyday if I can help it. Meter fares have increased in B’lore you know. 😦
August 17, 2010 at 18:33
Ha ha ha. That sounds awesome 😛 Err I know how awful it is though 😦
